Wed, 9 March 2016, 12:32 pm: Hadn’t yet had my inaugural pint in the Mad Hatter’s pub this trip, so I swung in on my way out to lunch to remedy that.
Sat briefly in this tiny nook just next to and slightly behind the front door. Great position for jumping out at people as they walk in. Not that a serious drinker would EVER jump with a beverage in hand.
I tried every beer they keep on tap in 2014 and Fuller’s Honey Dew is the only one I loved. It will be the only beer I drink at the Hatter in 2016, and it begins now. Cheers!
In addition to the brew, you can spot two other tools of my travelin’ trade in this clip: the handwritten notes in progress that may form the draft of a Matt, Take Me to London guidebook and another writer’s already published guidebook. Reading other authors’ travel reports gives me ideas I can copy, er, I mean, creatively repurpose, and it lets me know where those guys haven’t already been. Notice how none of the places I’ve blogged about so far this trip appear in ANY major American-published guidebooks yet?
The pub was not doing brisk lunch business today. I’ll take you in my next post to a restaurant that was.
