Fri, 11 March 2016, 4:35 pm: After the concert by Stranglers cover band Straighten Out in the basement, I rubbed elbows with fellow Stranglers obsessives on the pub’s street level.
The Hope & Anchor is an institution here in Camden Town, but it’s modern and trendy enough to host an array of newfangled beers in addition to the standard bearers.

All of us here right now will be rocking out together in a few hours as The Stranglers themselves prowl the 02 Brixton Academy stage. This afternoon is a chance to whet our appetites with The Stranglers’ most popular tribute band and a few pints.
I have the extreme pleasure of meeting in person two Stranglers super fans I’ve previously known only on the internet forums: Elvis in the Clouds and Bag Lady (not pictured). Not a lot of time to linger, though: I’ve gotta Tube it back to my hotel to grab my ticket for tonight’s show and then hustle back across town to the venue.
